This guitar was made in 2004 and is similar in many
ways to the Mossman guitars I made in the late 80's. It was commissioned by
Larry Akin from Iowa City. He wanted a guitar that defines the
American spirit and through our discussions we came up with this amazing guitar.
It is a standard rosewood dreadnought with East Indian rosewood sides and back,
mahogany neck, ebony fingerboard and bridge. It has abalone trim around the body
with a celluloid tortoise shell binding. The inlays are mother of pearl stars in
the fingerboard and an elaborate engraved mother of pearl and abalone eagle done
in the "Harley Davidson" style in the peg head. It was our idea to do the black
lacquer top as we felt that it would set off the inlays in a way that makes them
jump off the guitar
